The Sikh Community in Kenya manages the Temple at Makindu. The Temple was established over 100 years ago by pioneers engaged on development of the Railway Line and opening up Kenya to modern development and international trade. At present, the Temple is a major place of pilgrimage for the Sikh Community in East Africa. The Temple also provides complementary facilities comprising of food and refreshments to travellers passing through Makindu who decide to break their journey. Over the course of years, the management of the Temple has received numerous requsts for assistance from the local community and from travellers who suffer accident injuries or sickness. In response, with the initiative of a few public spirited and dynamic personalities the planning and devlopment of the medical facility was undertaken. The construction for the Hospital was completed in 1998.
